Writers' Group!

This whole "An Engineering Mind" thing has kind-of taken off. I'm proud of a bunch of the videos. Next week, I've invited a half-dozen people to a meeting to try and generate content, in an effort to decouple the writing from the production. Every single person accepted the invitation. Could be fun.

I've never really worked in a writing group before. Sure, I had those comedians come over to my house, eat some food, and throw around ideas. But only Todd and I ever produced any writing. Everybody else was all talk. Except for Scott, he was all about action, but he wasn't a writer.

Hopefully, this writers' group will be better.

I've been thinking about topics. Every week I could lecture for five minutes about something I've learned in comedy:
  • The anatomy of a joke: setup and punchline
  • What makes a good premise
  • What the Hell is offensive?
  • Road trips with Matt Sadler
  • Sgt. Hardwick's guide to writing with attitude

Or I could just yank subjects out of one of the many comedy writing books I've bought over the years. The Comedy Bible had some good ones. Come to think of it, I should probably have a couple of those writing exercises in mind just in case of a dry spell during the meeting.

But for now, I'll just plan on taking my laptop with FreeMind installed. That's worked pretty well for me up till now. When I've used it.
